More Views on Marijuana and the Law
So, there was a recent marijuana bust near Milwaukee not too long ago, and I just read an article in the paper that basically said it would make more sense to legalize marijuana and our laws are pretty much fucked up! I remembered when I was in treatment after my drunk drivings, there was a guy that was in treatment as well, but for marijuana... he got busted growing. His penalty for "cultivating" marijuana, was 12 months in jail, 5 years probation, and a felony which basically takes away all of his rights. He was a great guy, employed with the same company for 22 years, owned his own home, and had NO previous criminal record. Not that I am asking for more punishment for my DUI's, but my penalty for 2 DUI's in less than a year (that's another story)? 32 outpatient treatment sessions at an hour a piece, 5 days in jail, and loss of my driver's license for 12 months. Hmmm.... me being a danger to society while driving intoxicated vs. him growing some pot plants in the privacy of his own home, endagering no one. Doesn't really make sense, does it? The man hours and labor put into the investigations and busts for marijuana could be used cracking down on the gangbangers, and the child molestors, and the rapists and on and on. So frustrating. And if a person sells pot to be able to support their families, perhaps they are uneducated and can't hold a job or are tainted by past mistakes and can't get a job, who are they hurting? Doctor's sell drugs for a living!
