Help me out here...
So, as mentioned before, I've worked in the restaurant industry for almost 10 years now. I'm usually kept up to date with the latest trends and lingo working with so many "kids". I've recently been taught about the "Emo" look... I've seen it before, but never knew that was the term for it! So, I thought I had it, and I saw a kid at the bar with the choppy hair, and said, "there's an emo!". Confident in my assessment of the boy, I was quickly corrected. The kid was a "Skater", not an "Emo". Apparently this guys hair had a swoop in it from having had a hat on! C'mon now! So, here's my question. Is this guy an emo or a skater... or am I still way off. Man, getting old really sucks sometimes!
On the flipside, the little girl who taught me about "Emo" (her beau is a lil' hottie with that hair in his eyes) learned something from old me! I was fixing a dinner salad for one of my guests, and I asked her if she wanted to "toss my salad". She clearly didn't get it. So, being the adult and the mentor that I am to this 17 year old girl (she's like a little sister... but, without aging myself too much, I COULD be old enough to be her father), I was delighted to inform her of the hidden meaning behind the phrase! She was repulsed and couldn't believe that people actually did that! Now who's the cool one! Oh, gosh... what have I become. A dirty old man? Nah, it's all about shock value. I also filled my Mother in on the tossing of the salad... ironically, she had read about it several times in the "Romantic" novels that she is always reading.
